We are proud of our eco credentials and our sustainability here at Sherwood’s Firewood. From sourcing local, British, sustainable products, to our green electric and drying methods. Read all about it below.

Whenever possible all firewood is sourced locally and from British sustainable woodlands that are correctly managed to ensure diversity of tree species and maintenance of good environmental health.

All our firewood products are processed and stored at our site in Sherburn in Elmet. We utilise energy produced by an anaerobic digestion plant to heat our drying shed which ultimately seasons and dries firewood products ready for supply.

Anaerobic digestion (AD) uses organic waste (manure, crops and food waste) to produce renewable power, biofertiliser and water. The AD process can be used to create green electricity, biogas for use as vehicle fuels, or can be upgraded into bio methane for injection into the national gas grid.

Utilising our partner on site, Low Farm Energy, all of our energy is sustainable. Low Farms anaerobic digestion plant Based in Sherburn in Elmet, uses organic waste (manure, crops and food waste) to produce renewable power, biofertiliser and water. The AD process can be used to create green electricity, biogas for use as vehicle fuels, or can be upgraded into bio methane for injection into the national gas grid.

They grow energy crops such as maize, rye, and grass which allows us to implement a sustainable crop rotation, and use organic matter from their own pigs.
